DR650

Over the last few weeks I test rode a few different bikes
I went to a dealer, and not knowing that the
"test rides" where "group rides"
I jumped on a bike and went for a spin

A DR650SE

I had just gotten off a 2008 XT250, so when I jumped on this beast
it felt like I had taken quite a few steps back, and down

The XT is smooth, no vibes and shifting
Well it just clicks into gear so perfectly
It seemed so refined
To this...

I pulled over to check the bike out closer
Something that is very hard to at a dealer
It's that whole "predator" "prey" thing
So, without the tingling on the back of my neck
I investigated
What I found was a bike model that has not been changed since 1996
Not a bad thing...
If it works
So armed with ear plugs, and a W.T.F.
(I should be moving forward with technology, not back 13 years)
attitude
I headed out again, trying to get comfortable on a seat that the
Spanish inquisition
would only have used as a "last resort".
Trust me, a short time on this,
and you would be confessing to all sorts of blasphemies

The bike just seemed so crude, after the yammi

But...
That engine
rumbly, with lots of torque

Completely old school

I took it for a good ride through the hills
this bike just kept growing on me
I know that it has 400 cc's more than what I came off
but, this is one of those times when the phrase
"more than a sum of its parts"
comes into play

We cruised to few places

I bet they are wondering where their bike is

I took it back, and tested a few other bikes
Some ok
some great
but, none of them gave me the same feeling as the DR

A feeling of "No limits"

Its a bike that you can ride to the store for milk, or
The Namib desert
The Plains of Patagonia,
The Ural mountains
The Great Steppe
The Artic circle
Mongolia

I could go on, but

I am now the proud owner of a
DR650SE K9

K9 = 2009 (Year of bike)

I named him K9, mans best friend (Dr Who)

Let the fun begin

Snow

It has been quite some time since I last posted any rides
well here are some of the reasons

Snow

Lots of it

Not much riding, but lots of walking

Spring is on it's way

A short trip to Port Alberni

Last trip on my XT250

I sold it after this trip, and bought a...
