US Trip part 7 Home

What to do, and where to go next
I checked the weather network
a cold front was moving into the area
This late in the fall, that means snow
Should I head into Nevada, and through Death valley?
I knew the heat would do me in
So, I headed north towards home
I had a four day window
just enough time to get home before the storms hit

I packed up my kit and got ready for early departure

Under a blue sky I left Moab

I had 2000 km to go, to get home
so not many stops

Just for a snack

A stretch

Then back on the road

All these little trails
were calling to me
come ride us

Just south of Salt lake city I turned on to #6 north
and traveled though an amazing canyon
that stops just short of Salt Lake

I hit Salt lake City during rush hour
but, the roads here kept the flow going
in no time I was north of the city
and looking for a place to have dinner

Nice quite place off the highway

I traveled stopping only for fuel
till Snowville Utah

went to Mollie's cafe for a snack

The only motel in town

This is the only self serve motel I have ever seen
after getting a room
I was laying on the bed looking at the ceiling
what a strange pattern that is I thought as I fell asleep

It was flies
dozens of them
I found this out when the morning came
and, they went for a little adventure
on my face

As soon as I hit Idaho
The wind came
hours and hours of fighting a strong head wind
SUCKS!

I found a diner
There were two trucks hauling these

They are the blades of a wind mill

(These wind mills are in Utah)

Malad River Idaho

The wind brought fast changes to the weather

Now in Oregon

The temperature
dropped with the sun

By the time I made it to Baker City OR
I was freezing
I found a motel $32 a night
It came second only to
"Le Hotel Jepedo"

The next morning I found my bike covered in frost
This means cold ride, and slick roads :(

Later in the day

I seemed to have missed the worst of the storm

Not long before the sun came back
"Brilliant day"

I kept to the interstates
covering lots of miles
The only mishap came in the form of an evil GPS
Once I entered Washington state
my gps took me into the city of Kennewick
And proceeded to troll me through residential nebiourhoods
Up and down the streets I went, till I turned off my gps
and, pulled out my map
But, where was I, what city?
I had been riding for hours, and had not looked at the city signs when I entered
I nice lady at a gas station, got me headed to Yakima
It seems, that I did not have to enter Kennewick at all
"Stupid gps"
That night I made it as far as
Cle Elum WA
Found a place to stay
Met a few locals, who were amazed that I had ridden
my XT250 all the way from Colorado
They were even more amazed, when I told them that
I had ridden it down there as well
"What you need is a Harley"
They said
My reply
"I don't have enough tools"

The last leg of my journey
From Cle Elum I had one pass to get over, down to Seattle WA
then north to Vancouver BC
Other than some snow at the top of the pass
the day was clear
as I wanted to be home tonight
I made no stops, and my camera left its bag
only once

Home now
unpack my bike
go out for a pint
take some time to reflect on my journey
